Community Watersports Centre

Community Watersports Centre

Over the past 18 months, the Council has been developing a proposal for an enhanced community watersports centre to replace the existing Queen’s Park High School boathouse in Chester.  The partners in the project are Queen’s Park High School, QPHS Rowing Club, Chester Riverside Canoe Club, Deva Canoe Club, Cheshire Scouts and Royal Chester Rowing Club.

The overall project is intended to increase access to and uptake of water-sports for residents and visitors, especially people who are new to watersports. A Cheshire Youth Watersports Partnership has already been established to engage a wider range of schools and young people in watersports. You may also have an interest in the project and its wider benefits. Consequently,  now that the project is nearly ready to be submitted as a planning application, I would like to give you the opportunity to comment directly on the proposals as part of the pre-planning consultation.

A public exhibition is taking place on Tuesday 25th  October between 3 and 8 pm in the Palatine room at Chester Town Hall. This will be a drop-in session so you can arrive at any time. The exhibition will provide an opportunity to find out more about plans for the proposed Community Watersports centre. The scheme will provide a five-bay boatshed for rowing, canoeing and dragon boat use, along with a training room and associated facilities. The design team will be available to discuss any aspects of the scheme and representatives from the project partners will also be present.

You will of course also have the opportunity to comment on the proposals during the formal consultation process following submission of the planning application in a few weeks. It is anticipated that the proposal will be presented to Planning Committee in March 2017.
